Welcome to the Sive Lab

Dean of the College of Science (since June 2020) and Professor of Biology Dr. Hazel Sive studies development of the vertebrate embryo. Her group has made unique contributions to the fundamental questions of how the face forms and how the brain develops its normal structure. Research in the Sive lab additionally emphasizes neurodevelopmental and craniofacial disorders. Her group uses the accessible frog and zebrafish models, as well as human cells.

The Power of Developmental Biology

Craniofacial and Brain Development

How does the mouth form? What is the Extreme Anterior Domain? How does the brain get its shape? What is the brain ventricular system? How does the brain know where to form?

Neurodevelopmental and Mental Health Disorders

Zebrafish models of Epilepsy, 16p11.2 deletion syndrome, Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Mental Health disorders
